We know that Holbeach has its fair share of problems - which small town doesn't these days? However isn't it about time that the press and media stopped making such a song and dance about all the problems that Holbeach has?
At least things are happening in Holbeach - there's the new Parish Plan and there's lots of incentives that are available for small businesses to get free help. This site is all about showing the outside world that Holbeach and the area are pleasant places to live in and to visit - yes things could be improved but perhaps we ought to reflect on all the good things that are on offer to us locally. After all is said and done - we must find it pleasant - otherwise we wouldn't stay here - would we? If you feel the same - why not drop us a line?
Finally we publish an abridged version of Councillor Chrsitine Smith's published letter to the Target Newspaper with thanks for her permission to do so:
"I wish to say that there is a positive move to enhance and improve Holbeach town. A Parish Plan is being formulated and a steering group committee is endeavouring to improve matters in the town; to restore as much as possible, civic pride and confidence in what was and still is a pleasant place to shop and go about one's business. There has been and still is warranted negativity over certain issues and these serious issues need to be addressed, and slowly some of them are; not to everyone's satisfaction, but we must all keep beavering away in any way we can to achieve a satisfactory conclusion.
People in Holbeach and visitors need to use the local shops and businesses, don't keep going to the supermarkets for all needs, look about the town and there are a few shops in the high street that sell local vegetables of high quality. Try the bakers and cake specialists and there are two to my knowledge that offer superb merchandise! I am fortunate to live within walking distance of the town and enjoy the shops that cater for my needs. So, if anyone lives within a stone's throw from the shops and can get there without difficulty, use and support them when you can.
Yes, there are serious parking problems in town which hinder and put drivers off from shopping here, but this, I feel will be somewhat eased by having a two hour free parking in the Boston road car park. I hope this will not take too long to come about! As I said earlier, parking is one of the serious issues that must be addressed and soon!
There are many residents, including me, who love Holbeach and wish to witness it's up-swing and hope it will be an on going positive movement in this direction. It's no use talking about it and I feel this has eased recently with efforts being made by many quarters to tackle negativity.
The Steering Group for the Parish Plan had a promotional stall I the market on Thursday 12th July and it was a success. Passers by showed interest and some enthusiasm for the proposed Parish Plan. It is the first time as far as I know that people of the town could have a say! This was encouraging for those who stewarded the stall from 9am to 2pm. We plan to hold another such promotion in the coming months."
